A soft, sweet orange-blossom / neroli character with a waxy-floral facet reminiscent of the classical 'Nerolin' materials. Less sharp and more rounded than Nerolin Yara-Yara (the methyl ether), with a subtle balsamic undertone that lingers.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless or white shiny leaflets or scale-like crystals.

Solubility

Insoluble in water, poorly soluble in cold alcohol (about 6°), soluble in hot alcohol and most perfume oils.

Odor

Delicate and sweet, very tenacious floral-fruity odor. Less fruity than the iso-Butyl ether, more Neroli-like in dilution.

Uses in perfumery

This ether has been suggested for use in soap perfumes because of its low cost, great stability and excellent odor value.

Production

1) from beta-Naphthol and secondary-Butyl alcohol in the presence of sulfuric acid. 2) from beta-Naphthol sodium and secondary-Butyl bromide.
