A soft, transparent floral-woody material with a green, slightly waxy character reminiscent of nerolidol but lifted by a light, fresh formate ester nuance. Diffuse and airy, with a mild lily-of-the-valley to magnolia facet over a pale woody base.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless liquid.

Solubility

Practically insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Delicately woody, rather dry, but refined and discrete odor of moderate to good tenacity. It has a touch of floral note which, combined with the woody and green traces make this material almost confined to Muguet.

Uses in perfumery

This ester is of little interest to the perfumer, except that it can supply an interesting variation of the Muguet theme, and it can add attractive notes to a woody-ambre-like composition. It blends very well with Galbanum and Styrax, or with certain of the higher carbinols.

Production

Produced by cold formylation of Nerolidol.
