Neryl butyrate is a soft, fruity-floral ester with a fresh rosy character reminiscent of neroli and rose petals lifted by a green, slightly waxy nuance. It has a gentle sweetness and a mild pear-like or apple-like fruitiness that rounds out citrus and white-floral accords without dominating them.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless liquid.

Solubility

Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Delicate, leafy-floral, fruity orange-like and very sweet odor of moderate tenacity.

Flavor

Sweet-fruity, heavy fruit-preserve-like taste in concentrations around 10 ppm.

Uses in perfumery

This ester finds a little use in perfume compositions as a modifier in Lilac, Lily, Neroli, Rose and other florals. Its discretely animal character makes it particularly suitable for Rose and Lilac, while its leafy-fruity notes blend well with Citrus and Neroli notes.

Uses in flavor

The ester is also used in flavor compositions. The same discretely animal-heavy notes are useful in Cocoa, Chocolate and many Berry-types, in fruit complexes and Citrus flavors. The concentration is normally about 5 to 25 ppm in the finished product.

Production

Produced by azeotropic esterification of Nerol with Butyric acid or by ordinary esterification with Butyric anhydride.
