A fatty-aldehydic material with a distinctly oily, waxy character reminiscent of cucumber peel and unripe melon rind. Underneath sits a green, slightly cardboard-like nuance typical of long-chain unsaturated aldehydes, with a subtle sweet-fruity undertone as it dries down.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Pale yellowish liquid.

Solubility

Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Faint, but pleasant, warm-woody-herbal odor with some resemblance to Ambregris.

Uses in perfumery

This material, very rarely offered commercially, has probably little more than academic interest, since many materials with good Ambregris odor have been developed after the first mention of this peculiar aldehyde.

Production

Produced by condensation of Furfural with 10-Undecenal under mildly alkaline conditions.
