Likely Octyl Aldehyde (aldehyde C-8, octanal): a punchy fatty-aldehydic material with a bright citrus-peel facet, reminiscent of orange rind and fresh soap. Slightly greasy and waxy in the drydown, with a characteristic sharp, oily-fresh sparkle typical of the C-8 aldehyde family.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Bland-fruity, also mildly herbaceous odor of considerable tenacity.

Flavor

Its taste is sweet-fruity, Peach-like at concentrations below 5 ppm, and its minimum perceptible level is far below 1 ppm.

Uses in perfumery

It blends very well with Oakmoss for bases in modern perfumes, and it gives excellent fixation when supported by Sandalwood, macrocyclic musks, Vetiver, etc.

Uses in flavor

It could undoubtedly find use as a modifier in Peach and Apricot imitation, and as a fixative for heavy-fruity blends.

Production

Produced from Octyl malonic ester and Ethylene oxide.
