fruityoilyfatty

A very soft, faintly sweet waxy-oily material with a mild fatty ester character. Largely a low-odor fixative/diluent-adjacent aromachemical rather than a strong olfactive feature — lends smoothness and persistence with only a whisper of its own scent.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless viscous liquid.

Solubility

Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

When absolutely pure, the ester is virtually odorless, but commercial samples have usually shown some degree of oily-fatty or bland-fruity odor.

Uses in perfumery

The title ester has at one time been used as a diluent for Oakmoss resinoid and for other solvent purposes in perfumery, but the author believes that it is practically obsolete as a perfumery solvent, and that it has probably never been used as an odorant chemical.

Production

Produced by direct esterification of n-Octanol with Malonic acid.
