Appearance

Colorless liquid.

Solubility

Practically insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Powerful and diffusive, green-fruity, somewhat pungent odor of poor tenacity. The fruitiness resembles that of Amyl acetate, but it is not nearly as sweet, the greenness is slightly gassy-leafy, violet-like.

Uses in perfumery

This ester has been used in perfume compositions as part of topnote bases, fruity-green bases, etc., often in combination with Geranium, Lavender, Citrus oils, etc.

Production

Produced by azeotropic type esterification of 1-Penten-3-ol with acetic acid.
