Descriptors
floralsweet

A soft, green-floral hyacinth character with a honeyed sweetness and a faint earthy undertone. Rounder and more tenacious than free phenylacetaldehyde, without the harsh, sharp aldehydic bite — the acetal form releases the aldehyde slowly, giving a smoother, longer-lasting floral effect.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless liquid.

Solubility

Practically insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Mild, yet rather heavy-floral, sweet and tenacious odor.

Uses in perfumery

This acetal has found some use in perfume compositions for its ability to supply a pleasant, not very conspicuous, green-forest-like and slightly earthy undertone, useful in Muguet and Lilac compositions. It blends well with the carbinols and the rose alcohols, and it has a mellowing effect upon Indole, often used in such compositions.

Production

Produced by condensation of Phenylacetaldehyde with Benzylalcohol.
