Descriptors
sweetearthygreenrooty

A softer, more stable version of phenylacetaldehyde — the acetal releases a green-floral hyacinth character with honeyed, slightly rosy facets. Less sharp and less prone to oxidation than the free aldehyde, giving a rounded floral-green effect that lasts noticeably longer on the blotter.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless, slightly viscous liquid.

Solubility

Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Peculiar oily-green, earthy-rooty, but mild and sweet odor of good tenacity.

Uses in perfumery

This acetal has been suggested for use in perfume compositions as a Reseda™-acetal for its sweet-earthy-green notes, but it does not seem to have achieved the same popularity as many of the other Phenylacetaldehyde-cyclic-acetals.

Production

Produced by condensation of Phenylacetaldehyde and Phenylethyleneglycol.
