creamycoumarinictonkahaysweetnuttylactonic

A soft, creamy lactone with a warm coumarin-hay character reminiscent of tonka bean and freshly cut grass drying in the sun. Sweet and slightly nutty with a rounded, slightly floral undertone that fills out the base of a composition without being sharp.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

White crystalline mass, opaque mass, or supercooled, viscous liquid.

Solubility

Practically insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Very mild, faintly-balsamic, creamy and tenacious odor.

Uses in perfumery

This rare lactone is used occasionally in perfume compositions as supporting note in sweet-woody and balsamic-Oriental fragrance types. It blends very well with Ylang-Ylang, Methylionones, Benzoin, Sandalwood and Labdanum for those types, but it does not contribute much odor power to the composition.

Production

Produced from Phenylethylene oxide and Sodiomalonic ester
