Uses in perfumery

This carbinol finds a little use in perfumery, although it is far from being a common ingredient. For carnation, Ylang-Ylang, Wallflower, etc. it may be used as a modifier or supporting note, a blender to the more spicy materials, a liaison between the floral and the spicy notes.

Production

1) by hydrogenation of Phenylethyl ethyl ketone. 2) from Phenyl propionic aldehyde and Ethyl magnesium bromide in a Grignard type reaction.
