Almost certainly phenylethyl alcohol (2-phenylethanol) — a soft, mildly sweet rose-honey floral with a fresh, slightly green top and a clean, rounded body. Understated and diffusive rather than sharp, it forms the natural backbone of most rose accords and lends a gentle honeyed floralcy to white florals.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Colorless liquid.

Solubility

Very slightly soluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Pleasant ethereal-alcohol-like, sweet and rather powerful odor of poor tenacity.

Uses in perfumery

The title material finds some use in perfume compositions as part of topnote compositions, floral bases and certain types of herbaceous fragrance. It blends well with Lavender and Clary Sage, and it has a mellowing effect upon the aliphatic aldehydes in aldehydic topnote bases.

Production

Produced by azeotropic esterification of Phenylethyl ethylcarbinol with Acetic acid. Produced from Ethyl monochloroformate and Phenylethylalcohol in Chloroform with Pyridine as a catalyst.
