A soft, fresh floral aroma chemical reminiscent of hyacinth and lily-of-the-valley with a green, rosy undertone. Cleaner and less sweet than phenylethyl alcohol, with a slightly leafy, dewy character that lends transparency to floral accords.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless, slightly viscous liquid.

Solubility

Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Mild, warm-rosy and floral, refreshingly Muguet-like and tenacious odor.

Flavor

Delicate, fruity-green taste in concentrations below 5 ppm.

Uses in perfumery

This higher homologue of one of the most exquisite of all the carbinols is used in perfume compositions, but on account of its relatively high cost, it is more or less reserved for finer cosmetic fragrances and handkerchief perfumes.

Uses in flavor

Its power is also demonstrated in flavors, where traces of about 1 ppm are quite perceptible with warm-fruity notes.

Production

Produced from Phenylethyl magnesium bromide plus Methyl ethyl ketone in a Grignard type reaction.
