A soft, sweet balsamic material with a warm cinnamic-floral character reminiscent of hyacinth and mimosa over a honeyed base. Mildly powdery and rounded, it lends a persistent balsamic-floral warmth without sharpness.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

White crystals.

Solubility

Practically insoluble in water, poorly soluble in cold alcohol, better in hot alcohol. Soluble in most perfume oils.

Odor

Mild balsamic odor with a faint, but pleasant floral note of Lily-Hyacinth character, and very good tenacity.

Uses in perfumery

The title ester has been suggested for use in perfume compositions as a mildly floral fixative, but it does not present any significant advantage over the conventional materials.

Production

1) from Styrene glycol and Methyl cinnamate by alcohol interchange reaction. 2) by azeotropic esterification of Phenylglycol with Cinnamic acid, preferably in presence of a Toluenesulfonic acid type catalyst.
