Appearance

Colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Mild, oily-rosy and delicately green, tenacious odor.

Uses in perfumery

The title alcohol has been suggested for use in perfume compositions as a modifier, mainly in Rose compositions, where it should introduce freshness and discretely green notes. With that odor picture, the title material is also suitable for Muguet, Lily and other delicate, sweet-green florals.

Production

Produced from beta-Methyl-beta-phenylpropionic aldehyde by condensation with Acetone, followed by hydrogenation and reduction to the secondary-alcohol.
