Appearance

Colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Powerful, green-floral, diffusive and relatively tenacious odor with some resemblance to Cyclamen aldehyde, but sweeter and softer.

Uses in perfumery

The aldehyde blends very well with Linalool, Geraniol, Cinnamic alcohol, Styrax, Galbanum, Geranium etc. and it has a pleasant softening effect upon Cyclamen aldehyde if that material should be used simultaneously.

Production

Produced from para-iso-Propyl phenyl butyl magnesium bromide with ortho-Formic ester.
