The name 'Iso-Propyl' is incomplete and could refer to several different materials (isopropyl myristate, isopropyl alcohol, isopropyl quinoline, isopropyl methyl-2-butyrate, etc.). Without a fuller name or CAS number the specific olfactive profile cannot be determined with confidence.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Solubility

Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Vinous-oily, fruity, relatively refreshing odor of poor tenacity.

Flavor

Its pleasant flavor has been utilized outside of the USA in various fruit complexes, mainly as a supporting note since it is a very stable chemical.

Uses in perfumery

This ether is even more volatile than the n-Propyl benzyl ether and it is presumably not used to any great extent in perfume compositions.

Uses in flavor

It is also used in the type of fruit flavor used in the so-called 'wine-gum' which is a semi-soft gelatin candy, usually transparent and flavored with a winey fruit flavor.

Production

1) from Benzyl chloride and iso-Propanol under alkaline conditions. 2) from Benzyl alcohol and iso-Propanol by dehydration.
