Woody-minty, yet sweet-herbaceous odor of moderate to poor tenacity

Uses in perfumery

Suggested for use in perfume compositions, the main interest in the material was based upon a temporary production of the ketone as a by-product from two Australian Eucalyptus oils (Eucalyptus polybractea and Eucalyptus cneorifolia). These oils are no longer available and no longer interesting to produce.

Production

1) by isolation from certain Eucalyptus oils; 2) from Nopinene and Sabinene by reaction with diluted sulfuric acid; 3) by Autoxidation of beta-Phellandrene
