Pulegol (isopulegol) has a fresh, minty-herbal character reminiscent of peppermint with a cooling, slightly camphoraceous facet. It carries a green, leafy nuance and a mild woody undertone, less sweet and more herbaceous than menthol.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless or white crystals, melting to a colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Very slightly soluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Powerful, herbaceous, sweet-minty, rosy odor of moderate to poor tenacity.

Uses in perfumery

Pure Pulegol is not a commercial article and has not been in demand by the creative perfumer. It remains a scarce material in the research laboratory and perhaps in smaller quantities in the essential oil laboratories, for experiments with reconstituted essential oils.

Production

Produced by reduction of dextro-Pulegone with Lithium Aluminum hydride.
