A soft, rosy-floral note with a fresh, slightly fruity character reminiscent of geranium and rose petals. The propionate ester lends a light, waxy-fruity nuance that softens the raw rosy edge of rhodinol, giving a rounded, natural-smelling floral effect.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Colorless oily liquid.
Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.
Rich and sweet, fruity-floral Rose-Geranium type with a fresh, almost Verbena-like undertone and good tenacity. There is an overall balsamic character to this odor which makes it attractive, but also makes it rather inconspicuous.
Its taste is sweet and deep, while Citronellyl propionate is not nearly as sweet or rich.
The title ester is occasionally used as a modifier for the Acetate in Rose, Carnation, Oriental or balsamic fragrance types. It has a richer odor than the Acetate, but it also lacks the freshness of that material. Its sweetness blends very well with balsamic and Citrus-balsamic notes for rich Oriental types.
The ester finds a little use in flavor compositions, e.g. in imitation Plum, Honey, various Berry-compositions and Rose flavors.
Produced from Rhodinol (ex Geranium oil) and Propionic anhydride.
