A soft, creamy sandalwood-like note with a subtle floral-fruity nuance from the formate ester. Less tenacious and more diffusive than sandalwood oil itself, it lends a smooth, slightly sweet woody character with a delicate rosy-milky facet.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless, slightly viscous liquid.

Solubility

Practically insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Sweet-ethereal-floral, also herbal, Sandalwood odor, without the medicinal character of the natural oil, yet more woody and dry.

Uses in perfumery

This ester, very rarely available commercially, has been suggested for use in perfume compositions. As a supporting note for Santalol, as an undertone in Cassie and Mimosa variations, in Chypre and Oriental fragrances (it blends very well with Geranium oil), it could find some use.

Production

Produced by cold formylation of Santalol.
