A soft, sweet-balsamic material with a mild floral-woody character reminiscent of lilac and pine needle undertones. In dilution it feels rounded, slightly powdery, and quietly persistent — a gentle background fixative rather than a bold statement note.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless or very pale straw-colored, slightly viscous liquid.

Solubility

Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Weak, but tenacious, woody-floral, warm odor with a musky undertone.

Uses in perfumery

The title ester has found a little use in perfumery as a fixative and blender in balsamic, Oriental, heavy floral and perhaps Chypre type fragrances. It blends well with Ylang, Sandalwood, Oakmoss, etc. for such purposes, but its contribution to the overall odor is very small.

Production

Produced by azeotropic esterification of Terpineol with Benzoic acid in the presence of a Naphthalenesulfonic acid catalyst.
