A fruity-green ester with a fresh, slightly tropical character reminiscent of unripe apple, pear skin and green banana. Has a mild waxy-oily undertone and a soft crotonate lift that keeps it lively rather than syrupy.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol, miscible with oils.

Odor

Warm, caramellic-herbaceous, mildly balsamic odor, in dilution almost floral in its balsam-notes.

Uses in perfumery

The title ester is very rarely offered under its proper chemical name, but finds some use in perfume compositions as an undertone and occasionally as part of the less volatile base in a topnote composition. It will support herbaceous and balsamic-floral notes, Ylang, Labdanum, Rose, etc. and blends very well with Juniper berry oil notes in Ambre compositions.

Production

Produced by azeotropic esterification of Tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol with 2-Butenoic acid (alpha-Crotonic acid).
