A soft, warm macrocyclic musk character — clean and slightly waxy with a gentle powdery-sweet nuance. Rounded and skin-like rather than sharp, with a subtle animalic warmth that gives depth without dirtiness.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless, slightly viscous liquid. Solidifies in the cold.

Solubility

Almost insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Pleasant and rich, musky odor, slightly weaker than that of Tetradecamethylene carboxylate and less tenacious.

Uses in perfumery

The title material has been suggested for use as a “macrocyclic musk”, but since its manufacture is more costly than that of Tetradecamethylene carboxylate, there is not much reason to prefer the title material. It may have only academic interest now, while a few of its homologies are still in use.

Production

Produced from Tridecamethyiene glycol and Butyl carbonate with Sodium, followed by decarboxylation by heat.
