Descriptors
floralwaxy

A long-chain fatty aldehyde with a characteristic waxy-citrus profile — bright grapefruit-peel and orange-rind facets riding on a creamy, slightly soapy waxiness. Softer and less soapy than C10-C12 aldehydes, with a persistent oily-citrus dry-down reminiscent of candle wax and pith.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Colorless oily liquid, solidifying in the cold.

Solubility

Practically insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Powerful waxy, fresh-citrusy, grapefruit-like odor with slightly floral, petal-like waxy character and good tenacity.

Uses in perfumery

This aldehyde, although not very common, has found use in perfume compositions for its power and freshness, equally useful in top-notes and in the heart of the fragrance. It combines delightfully with oakmoss and ambregris materials, with jonones and jasmine materials, etc. It is often used in honeysuckle and other heavy florals where it distracts from overly sweet, floral or fruity notes, while the tenacity of the fragrance is maintained.

Production

Produced from Lauryl bromide, or from n-Dodecene via Oxo-reaction.
