Iva (Achillea moschata) oil has a wild alpine herbal character — green, slightly bitter and camphoraceous on top, with a warm musky-hay drydown reminiscent of chamomile and yarrow crossed with a soft animalic muskiness. Distinctive rustic, mountain-herb signature.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Iva Oil is blue or greenish-blue when freshly distilled, but it fades considerably on ageing.

Odor

Generally, the odor is warm-herbaceous, camphoraceous, with a similarity to hop oil and tansy oil, while it usually is difficult or impossible to perceive the musky notes which have given the name of Musk Yarrow to the plant.

Uses in perfumery

Oil of Iva could find use in perfumery to introduce rare and so-called intriguing notes in citrus colognes, fougéres, herbaceous fragrances, etc.

Production

The essential oil is steam distilled from the flowers.
