Description ❯ Litsea Cubeba Essential Oil, also known as May Chang, has an intensely fresh lemon aroma with fruity sweetness, dry citral brightness, and faint spicy undertones. It does not behave like cold pressed lemon peel, and it is less grassy than lemongrass. The effect is more lemon-sherbet: bright, sweet, clean, and immediately recognisable. The first impression is lively and fruity, then the scent settles into a drier citrus trace with soft spice underneath. This makes Litsea useful in soaps, room sprays, diffusers, candles, cleaning-style blends, fresh body products, citrus accords… — Mystic Moments product description, imported.

A bright, juicy lemon-like top note with a rounder, sweeter and slightly tropical fruit character than lemon oil itself. Fresh and sparkling on opening, with a soft green-herbal undertone that fades relatively quickly.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Oil of Litsea Cubeba is a pale yellow, mobile oil.

Odor

Oil of Litsea Cubeba has an intensely lemon-like, fresh and sweet odor, with a soft and sweet-fruity, uniform dryout.

Flavor

The oil of Litsea Cubeba has a pleasant taste and could be used in flavor work as a modifier for lemon and lime flavors, and as a general freshener in fruit flavors.

Uses in perfumery

In perfumes, Litsea Cubeba oil could replace lemongrass oil to a certain degree, but it would probably find better use in artificial verbena type bases, colognes, household sprays, air fresheners, etc.

Production

The essential oil is steam-distilled from the small, pepperlike fruits.
