Deep, dry, and earthy — the archetypal chypre backbone. Oakmoss concrete smells of damp forest floor, wet bark, and lichen with a bitter-green, slightly leathery undertone. Thicker and more tenacious than the absolute, with a resinous, almost inky darkness.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Oakmoss Concrete is a solid, waxy, dark green mass or a viscous, brownish-green liquid depending on the extraction method used.

Solubility

The concrete is not clearly soluble in alcohol, but it has very great fixative value.

Odor

The odor is phenolic-woody, slightly tar-like but delicate and pleasant, reminiscent of seashore, forest, bark, wood, green foliage, and tannery.

Uses in perfumery

At sufficiently low concentration, Oakmoss Concrete can be used in soap perfumes, provided the color is not a drawback. It is used for further processing into absolutes and other products.

Production

True Oakmoss Concrete is prepared by hydrocarbon solvent extraction of the lichen, Evernia Prunastri.
