Colorless liquid, solidifying in the cold, melting at 19°C.
Practically insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.
Musty-floral, sweet and rather heavy Orangeblossom-Mandarin-peel like odor, winey-fruity undertones.
The taste of this ester is somewhat milder and softer than that of Methylanthranilate, not quite as typical of 'Concord'-grapes, more 'berry'-like.
The ester finds extensive use in perfumery, particularly in soap and detergent, shampoo and various cosmetic perfumes.
It is also used widely in flavor compositions, not only in Grape imitation, but generally in 'Tutti-frutti' flavor, Citrus blends (Tangerine, Mandarin, etc.).
Produced from N-Methyl isatoic anhydride and Methanol.
