Soft, elegant violet-floral with a creamy woody undertone reminiscent of orris and cedar. Rounder, warmer and more powdery than alpha-iso-methyl ionone, with a slightly fruity nuance and excellent smoothness that lingers into the drydown.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Appearance

Almost colorless or slightly yellowish oily liquid.

Solubility

Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Light and warm-woody, floral and at the same time Ambregris-like odor of moderate tenacity.

Flavor

The material finds limited use in flavor compositions, mainly in berry or fruit flavors, and in floral types.

Uses in perfumery

This is a rather expensive, but highly desirable isomer of the Methylionones. Its mildly animal (Ambregris-like) notes have made the material particularly interesting as a base for luxury perfumes, many of which contain a high percentage of subject material.

Production

Produced by condensation of Citral with Methyl ethyl ketone, followed by cyclization.
