Descriptors
warmherbaceousmintycamphoraceous

Sharp, camphoraceous herbal note reminiscent of sage, wormwood and tansy — cool and slightly minty with a bitter, medicinal green edge. Has a penetrating, almost eucalyptus-like freshness that turns dry and terpenic on the drydown.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Almost colorless mobile liquid.

Solubility

Practically insoluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Powerful and penetrating, warm-herbaceous, minty-camphoraceous odor of moderate to poor tenacity.

Flavor

Warm-herbaceous, bitter taste in concentrations lower than 10 ppm. Higher concentrations produce pungent-bitter, herbaceous taste.

Uses in perfumery

The title monoterpenoid ketone is used sparingly in certain perfume formulations, often as a trace component of topnote compositions, and it blends very well with Oakmoss, Rosemary, Geranium, Galbanum and various green-herbaceous notes, and with certain Ambre-type fragrances.

Production

Produced by isolation from various essential oils: Cedarleaf oil (Thuja oil), Tansy oil, Dalmatian Sage oil, etc.
