Almost colorless oily liquid.

Solubility

Very slightly soluble in water, soluble in alcohol and oils.

Odor

Warm-spicy, sweet and slightly floral-balsamic odor, reminiscent of Eugenol, but milder and sweeter than this.

Uses in perfumery

Occasionally used in perfumery as a substitute for Eugenol when Eugenol seems to produce a problem with possible discoloration.

Production

Produced by catalytic reduction of Eugenol with Palladium or Platinum black catalyst.
