Sweet, rosy-floral character with a clear geranium-rose facet and a soft citrusy lift on top. Develops a slightly waxy, green-fruity undertone as it settles, staying smooth and rounded without sharpness.AI · claude-opus-4-7

Perfume and Flavor Chemicals, page 586.
Colorless oily liquid. May turn pale yellowish and change odor by absorbing oxygen from air.
Slightly soluble in water, miscible with alcohol and oils, soluble in propylene glycol.
Mild and sweet, floral Rose-type odor. Warm and yet slightly dry undertones, but there are great variations according to the quality and origin of the Geraniol.
Its taste is somewhat disappointing, somewhat bitter unless used at very low concentration. Nerol is generally preferred for better sweetness. However, Geraniol finds its way into multitude of flavor types, such as Apple, Apricot, Strawberry, Raspberry, Plum, Peach, Honey, Cherry, Lemon, Cassia, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Rootbeer, Ginger Ale, etc.
One of the most frequently used perfume chemicals, this alcohol finds its way into all types of perfumes for all kinds of purposes, from delicate lotion perfumes and soft cosmetic fragrances to sweet floral household odors and even the least expensive soap perfumes. Although primarily a rose material, Geraniol is used generally as a sweet floral material of outstanding versatility. It forms conventionally a major part of most artificial Ylang Ylang bases, and is often included in creations of Peony, Sweet Pea, Frangipanni, Magnolia, etc.
Concentrations are usually kept as low as 1 to 10 ppm in the finished product, more because of the lack of sweetness than because of any fear of toxicity.
1) by isolation from Palmarosa oil or from Citronella oil. 2) by reduction of Citral a. 3) from Pinene via Myrcene and its Hydrochloride to Geranyl chloride.
